Who is Hawthorne Midwives?

by | May 3, 2018

Hawthorne Midwives started many years ago as an idea. We were seeing many women who wanted midwifery care not able to access care. I would talk to my own family doctor about this when I saw her for appointments. She was an advocate for midwifery but was growing frustrated that her patients could not access care.
Not only that but we knew there were women who didn’t even know midwifery was an option. Good friends of mine delivered with a physician and when I asked why they didn’t consider midwifery care they said they couldn’t afford it. I was heartbroken because even my friends didn’t know midwifery care was funded by the government. We were also seeing the community around us change. More and more families are immigrating to Milton and Mississauga. Transitioning to a new country can be really difficult and we know that midwifery care can provide a lot of support during this time. So there was clearly a need for a practice in this area.
Our goal at Hawthorne Midwives is to provide excellent and culturally sensitive care. That is why we prioritize outreaching to our community partners to educate the public about the care we provide. We have asked for feedback from women who have had midwifery care so we can shape our practice to meet the needs of our growing families.
Our logo is “Embrace Beginnings.” Starting and growing your family are challenging transitions and we want to walk with you as you embrace these new changes. If you have any questions about midwifery care we would love to talk to you.
